Hundreds of residents of Hittin compound in Barzeh district of Damascus are suffering of humanitarian crises and harsh conditions due to the consequences of war in Syria on their living status. The compound remained neutralize, despite its proximity geographically from the heart of events, while its residents were able to avoid engaging events in Syria, Despite attempts by some residents to form popular committees for security, but the residents refused to do so and strongly denied arming anyone.
In the end of 2012, and the beginning of 2013, the situation inside the compound became more serious, where it was subjected to shelling as well as sniping that was aimed at everything that moves. It was mentioned that the compound not a target in itself but as a result of its location in the contact on the main road area and next to the service compound, which is the focus of the leadership of the regular army and air security north of Damascus, and communicates directly with the pro-Regime Bayader site that is full of PFGC militants.
The compound surrounded from the Western side by scientific research hill that is full with cannons and machine guns off the neighborhood, as well as it is surrounded for the north of by Ish Al Warwar Mount.
On the eastern side, the compound is in direct contact with Barzah country lanes that were under the control of the free army groups, these things combined made the compound a line of confrontation between the two parties.
Events rolled and culminated by the beginning of March 2013, until residence in the compound became threat to the population as a result of the large number of shells and sniping as operations,as well as the siege. Moreover, the two conflict parties’ calls for evacuation, while residents began to displace gradually, to be completely empty of residents by mid-April 2013. Yet, its residents were able to return to it later, after a truce was signed between the regular army and armed groups of the Syrian opposition in Barza area.
