Anger Ignites Hama Camp: Why Did the Residents Revolt Against “Sa’iqa”?

Hama – Action Group

The Action Group’s correspondent in Hama reported that Al-A’edeen Camp witnessed a tense and angry demonstration on the evening of Saturday, February 8, as dozens of residents protested against the decision to reopen the offices of “Sa’iqa,”the Palestinian faction affiliated with the national leadership of the Ba’ath Party in Syria.

According to local sources, deep anger and resentment spread among the families of martyrs and detainees, who view this move as a direct provocation. They believe it is an insult to the memory of victims who suffered from violations and arrests allegedly committed by the organization over the years. Residents emphasized that reactivating these offices disregards demands for justice and accountability.

During the protest, demonstrators raised slogans condemning the return of “Sa’iqa,”insisting on the need to hold those responsible for past violations accountable rather than allowing the group to regain influence within Palestinian camps. Protesters also voiced their strong rejection of any steps that could fuel social tensions or deepen divisions within the camp.

The demonstration took place amid an already tense atmosphere, with many residents arguing that reopening these offices signals the continuation of policies that have long caused suffering. They criticized decision-makers for failing to consider the pain and grievances of the victims and their families.

Human rights sources and residents warned that such actions could further escalate tensions within the camp. They urged the relevant authorities to reconsider the decision and respond to residents’ demands for justice and genuine reconciliation.
