Security tensions in Al-Nayrab camp leave one dead and several injured

Aleppo | Action Group

The Neirab camp for Palestinian refugees in Aleppo witnessed severe security tensions, including heavy gunfire and the sound of ambulances, resulting in the death of Palestinian refugee Ahmed Abu Hamid and the injury of two other people with serious head and foot injuries.

The Action Group’s correspondent reported that the General Security Forces sent additional reinforcements to the camp to control the situation and restore calm, and imposed an internal curfew to preserve the safety of residents.

Amid the ongoing tension, camp residents appealed to rational authorities and social activists to urgently intervene to calm the situation and ensure stability in the camp. Accounts of the circumstances surrounding the incident remain conflicting, with no official clarification of the true causes.

Following the incident, the Neirab camp committee issued a statement expressing its regret for what happened on the third day of Eid, noting that the incident escalated from a fistfight to an unwanted clash. The statement affirmed the camp committee’s support for the Syrian state and its security services, holding them fully responsible for security in the camp and in Aleppo.

The committee affirmed its rejection of describing the incident as being linked to remnants of the regime, stressing that the Neirab camp is part of the Palestinian refugees in Syria who dream of liberating Palestine, and that the real enemy is the Zionist occupation. The committee also expressed its pride in the good relations with the residents of the neighboring villages, and called for the formation of a committee from the security services and the camp committee to investigate the incident and hold those involved accountable. It called on residents to exercise self-restraint and adhere to security directives, rejecting all forms of incitement and sedition broadcast by some media pages.

Efforts are continuing to contain the crisis and prevent it from escalating, amid calls for residents to be patient and cooperate with the security forces to ensure the security of the camp and the safety of its residents.
