Armed Clashes Paralyze Jaramana Camp, Shut Down All Movement

Heavy armed clashes erupted in the city of Jaramana in the early hours of Tuesday, accompanied by intense gunfire and falling projectiles, sparking fear and panic among residents of the Jaramana Palestinian refugee camp, which was directly impacted by the escalating security unrest.

According to the Action Group’s correspondent in Jaramana Camp, the clashes broke out near the camp’s entrance by the Omar Ibn Al-Khattab Mosque and spread to the Al-Naseem neighborhood. The fighting involved local armed committees and a group reportedly affiliated with militants from Eastern Ghouta.

Local sources reported that the clashes resulted in three deaths and eight injuries of varying severity. Explosions and gunfire echoed throughout the city, completely paralyzing movement and halting all transportation to and from the camp, where residents rely heavily on Jaramana’s bus lines for daily commuting.

Eyewitnesses said the camp’s residents endured hours of anxiety and near-total isolation from the outside, as UNRWA schools and its medical center closed and suspended services until further notice. Security forces imposed a tight cordon around the camp’s entrances in anticipation of any further escalation.

These events follow recent tensions sparked by the circulation of an audio recording allegedly attributed to a Druze cleric containing religious insults, which triggered public outrage and social unrest in the city.

In an official statement, the Syrian Ministry of Interior said it had not yet verified the authenticity of the recording, adding that investigations are ongoing and urging citizens to act responsibly and refrain from actions that could threaten public order.

Jaramana has witnessed repeated security tensions in recent months between state security forces and local Druze committees, amid mutual accusations over responsibility for maintaining order, which have at times led to armed deployment and threats of open conflict.
