Security documents show that more than 90 detainees, including 36 Palestinian refugees, died under torture.

Zaman al-Wasl newspaper revealed in a new journalistic investigation 43 security documents issued by the Syrian Military Intelligence Division – Unit 215, documenting the deaths of more than 90 detainees under torture. These documents document the deaths of more than 90 detainees who were buried en masse without informing their families, after their bodies were delivered to Harasta Military Hospital, which is affiliated with the Military Medical Services Administration.

The documents, which were published with the signatures of several intelligence officers, include direct orders to hand over the bodies and bury them without informing the victims’ families. Some of the documents begin with the phrase: “We are sending you the bodies of the following detainees…”, indicating official coordination between the security services and medical authorities. This reflects the systematic and institutional nature of the killings inside detention centers, according to the investigation.

Among the victims named in the documents, 36 Palestinian refugees were identified, most of them from the Yarmouk Camp in Damascus, who had previously been arrested by Syrian security forces and later died under torture.

This revelation provides further documentation of what human rights organizations say is a pattern of gross human rights violations in detention centers run by the former Syrian regime, including torture, enforced disappearances, and extrajudicial killings.

This information reinforces the demands of families and human rights organizations to reveal the fate of thousands of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, and to conduct transparent international investigations to hold accountable those responsible for these violations, which amount to crimes against humanity.
