Survey: 95% of Palestinians from Syria criticize UNRWA’s performance

Damascus | The Action Group

The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS) revealed the results of a poll conducted on its social media pages, showing widespread discontent among Palestinian refugees in Syria regarding the overall performance of UNRWA.

The results showed that the vast majority of participants rated the agency’s performance as ranging from “very bad”to “poor,”confirming the deterioration in services provided to refugees. According to the poll, which included hundreds of refugees, 69% of participants rated UNRWA’s performance as “very bad,”attributing the direct cause to “nepotism and corruption”within the agency’s structure. 26% described the performance as “poor,”emphasizing that it “does not meet the basic needs of refugees”amidst the suffocating economic crisis.

In total, 95% of respondents expressed dissatisfaction with UNRWA’s current services, while the “excellent: operates with high efficiency”option received no votes, and the “good”and “relatively acceptable”options combined garnered less than 3%.

This survey highlights two main tendencies of criticism: the first focuses on administrative and financial matters (corruption and nepotism), and the second on service delivery and operational aspects (failure to meet basic needs).

The Action Group emphasizes that these findings reflect the harsh reality faced by Palestinians in Syria and constitute an urgent call for UNRWA management to conduct a comprehensive review of its operational mechanisms and put an end to all forms of administrative corruption, in order to ensure that essential aid reaches those who need it most amidst the worsening living conditions.
