Italian Coast Guard announced that about 700 immigrants have drowned in the Mediterranean Sea when the ship they were traveling near the Italian island of Lampedusa flipped while trying to reach Europe. The Coast Guards confirmed that they managed to rescue only28 refugees, while the vessel capsized when passengers went to one side at the approach of a merchant ship.
For its part, the Maltese Navy said that the ship sank in Libyan waters 200 kilometers to the south of Lampedusa.
It is worth mentioning that nearly 1500 migrants drowned in the sea since the beginning of this year while trying to reach from Libya to Italy.
In the same context, Turkish Coast Guard Command rescued three illegal immigrants, including a three-year-child, out of (35) after the sinking of a refugee boat on their way to the “Kos” island in Greek.
