On November 28, the Prisons Museum Foundation in Damascus organized a human rights event focusing on enforced disappearances and the related rights of families, as well as the responsibility of relevant authorities to uncover the truth<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Representatives from the National Commission for the Missing, Amnesty International, and a number of human rights activists and families of the forcibly disappeared participated in the event.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Secretary General of Amnesty International delivered a comprehensive presentation addressing the situation of the forcibly disappeared, emphasizing the need for the Syrian government to commit to effective mechanisms for uncovering the fate of the missing and guaranteeing the rights of their families, within a clear framework that adheres to international standards of justice and accountability.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

For its part, the National Commission for the Missing reviewed the most significant challenges facing documentation and search operations, highlighting the need for reliable pathways that enable families to obtain accurate information about their loved ones. The presentations also addressed the mass graves being uncovered in various areas, which are believed to contain the remains of victims of enforced disappearance.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

In this context, representatives of the National Commission for Missing Persons presented ongoing efforts\u201d\u201din cooperation with international organizations\u201d\u201dto establish specialized centers for analyzing remains using forensic evidence and DNA. The aim is to identify victims, enable families to reclaim their rights, and end the uncertainty they have endured for years.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The event also featured testimonies from relatives of the forcibly disappeared, who spoke of their continued suffering due to the lack of information. They emphasized that uncovering the truth is a fundamental step toward redress and restoring social and psychological well-being.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
