Residents of the Deir Ballout refugee camp for Palestinians and Syrians in the Afrin countryside of northern Syria are issuing an urgent appeal to the world after the humanitarian situation deteriorated to an unprecedented degree due to the cessation of aid and the severe shortages of food and medicine, leaving thousands of civilians in dire straits.<\/span><\/p>\n

The camp, which houses more than 80 Palestinian families displaced from southern Damascus, is living in dilapidated tents lacking the most basic necessities, amidst bitter cold, heavy rain, and sweltering summer heat, exacerbating their daily suffering.<\/span><\/p>\n

Eyewitness accounts from inside the camp indicate that basic services are virtually nonexistent, with charitable organizations ceasing the distribution of bread and essential food items. Residents are also suffering from a critical shortage of medicine and medical supplies.<\/span><\/p>\n

In their pleas for help, the residents are urging the international community and humanitarian organizations to take immediate action to provide:<\/span>
\n– urgent humanitarian aid, including food, medicine, and basic necessities;<\/span>
\n– urgent medical support for the sick and wounded;<\/span>
\n– heating equipment, clothing, and blankets to cope with the harsh winter;<\/span>
\n– and immediate solutions to address the plight of the displaced and guarantee their right to a dignified and safe life.<\/span><\/p>\n

One camp resident says, “We are dying a slow death here. We have lost our homes, our loved ones, and our dignity, and no one is paying attention to us. All we can do is scream at the top of our lungs, hoping that the world’s conscience will awaken and save us from this hell.”<\/span><\/p>\n

Unofficial statistics from before the fall of the former Syrian regime indicate that there were 1,488 Palestinian refugees in northern Syria, but these numbers have decreased as dozens of Palestinian families have returned to their camps, especially Yarmouk camp.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
