{"id":94171,"date":"2020-07-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2020-07-17T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/actionpal.ahmadalkhuleyf.net\/post\/10394\/"},"modified":"2020-07-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2020-07-17T21:00:00","slug":"10394","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/actionpal.tech\/en\/post\/10394","title":{"rendered":"Palestinian Refugees Urge UNRWA to Transfer Cash Grants in USD"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">Palestinian refugees from Syria (PRS) in Lebanon have called on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to pay their monthly aid in dollars, in light of the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the dramatic drop in the exchange rate of the local currency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">In appeals emailed to the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria (AGPS), PRS in Lebanon urged UNRWA to carry out an emergency reassessment of its cash aid program and shell out PRS&#8217; dues that have been indirectly cut as a result of the Agency&#8217;s failure to take into account exchange rate variations over recent months.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">Since mid-October 2019, the exchange rate of the Lebanese pound has remarkably shrunk back. $1 is currently worth 3,200 LP. UNRWA&#8217;s cash aid program has failed to take into account such a dramatic drop in the currency exchange rate.\u00c2\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">According to UNRWA data, until February 2020, there are 28,000 PRS in Lebanon, making nearly 7,000 families.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">PRS in Lebanon continue to face high vulnerability and marginalization, making them heavily reliant on UNRWA humanitarian support to cover their basic needs.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">Almost 90 per cent of PRS in Lebanon are under the poverty line and 95 per cent are food insecure, according to a 2015 survey by UNRWA.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Palestinian refugees from Syria (PRS) in Lebanon have called on the UN Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) to pay their monthly aid in dollars, in light of the deteriorating economic situation in the country and the dramatic drop in the exchange rate of the local currency.
