{"id":94505,"date":"2022-04-18T00:00:00","date_gmt":"2022-04-17T21:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/actionpal.ahmadalkhuleyf.net\/post\/13011\/"},"modified":"2022-04-18T00:00:00","modified_gmt":"2022-04-17T21:00:00","slug":"13011","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/actionpal.tech\/en\/post\/13011","title":{"rendered":"Palestinians from Syria Granted Protection Rights in Switzerland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">A long battle of Palestinians with Syrian backgrounds has concluded, with those coming from the war-torn Middle Eastern nation winning protection rights under the UN Convention in a European country, according to Anadolu Agency.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">Ghada al-Rayan, a Palestinian-Syrian human rights defender, told Anadolu Agency that the Federal Supreme Court of Switzerland decided in favor of her family, granting them residency rights after \u201cacknowledging the statelessness of Palestinian refugees from Syria and their right to protection.\u201d\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">The plea by al-Rayan had sought an amendment in the description of Palestinian refugees coming from Syria from \u201cde facto stateless persons or citizens of an unknown state to de jure stateless refugees.\u201d\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">The Palestinian activist said Switzerland was \u201cone of the first countries in Europe that have agreed to the fact that Palestinians who are born in Syria are also stateless and eligible to all rights under 1954-Convention Relating to the Status of Stateless Persons.\u201d\u009d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">The UN&#8217;s legal definition of a stateless person is someone who is \u201cnot recognized as a national by any state under the operation of its law.\u201dThis means that a stateless person is someone who does not have the nationality of any country.<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align:justify\"><span style=\"background-color:transparent; color:rgb(0, 0, 0); font-family:times new roman; font-size:14pt\">The 1954 Convention establishes minimum standards of treatment for stateless people with respect to a number of rights which include, but are not limited to, \u201cthe right to education, employment and housing.\u201dImportantly, the 1954 Convention also guarantees stateless people a right to identity, travel documents and administrative assistance.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A long battle of Palestinians with Syrian backgrounds has concluded, with those coming from the war-torn Middle Eastern nation winning protection rights under the UN Convention in a European country, according to Anadolu Agency.
