Turkey – Action Group<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

The Government of the Republic of Turkey and the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) officially signed an agreement on Monday to host a representative office of the Agency in the capital, Ankara \u201d\u201d a step described as a qualitative leap in the course of partnership between the two sides.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of the 51st session of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation held in Istanbul. Both parties emphasized that this move reflects the depth of bilateral relations and enhances cooperation between UNRWA and the Turkish government, particularly in coordination with official institutions and the Turkish public.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini stated after the signing:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

“I would like to express my appreciation for Turkey’s strategic decision to host a UNRWA office in Ankara, which will enable us to diversify and expand the base of political and financial support we receive.”<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lazzarini added that the new office will help strengthen the Agency’s humanitarian and diplomatic outreach, praising Turkey’s increased humanitarian assistance \u201d\u201d especially during times of war \u201d\u201d including support for emergency relief operations and the provision of wheat flour to residents of Gaza.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

UNRWA extended its thanks to Turkey for inviting it as a special guest to the meeting of OIC foreign ministers and commended the positions of the organization’s member states for renewing their solidarity with the Agency and the rights of Palestine refugees.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

It is worth noting that Turkey is considered one of UNRWA’s key supporters. It has been a member of the Agency’s Advisory Commission since 1949 and has consistently provided political and financial support, reflecting its commitment to the cause of Palestinian refugees and their right to dignity and a decent life.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
