As the international community speaks on World Refugee Day about the strength and resilience of the millions forced to flee their homes, we turn our attention to the dire plight of Palestinian refugees from Syria, which has escalated with the Syrian war.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Syria was a haven for Palestinians forcibly displaced by the 1948 Nakba. However, since 2011, the Syrian war has displaced hundreds of thousands of Palestinians once again, pushing them into a new cycle of displacement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many have been displaced multiple times within Syria, while others have sought refuge in neighboring countries, Europe, and beyond, often facing unique legal and economic challenges.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The situation of Palestinian refugees from Syria is one of extreme vulnerability and long-standing hardship. Having already experienced the trauma of displacement generations ago, they now face a new chapter of suffering and challenges, most notably:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Displacement and instability:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Many have endured multiple displacements within Syria, fleeing violence and destruction, only to find themselves in precarious living conditions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Statelessness and pending legal status:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Their status as stateless refugees often complicates their ability to access the basic rights, documentation, and protection they desperately need in host countries.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Limited Aid and Services:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Despite urgent needs, Palestinians face a lack of funding, and many displaced persons lack access to healthcare, education, and employment opportunities.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

The Forgotten Reconstruction Crisis:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

A number of Palestinian camps and gatherings are facing a loss of funding and priority for reconstruction, as their populations continue to suffer from ongoing displacement.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

We, the Action Group for Palestinians of Syria, urge the international community, governments, and humanitarian organizations to:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Ensure the protection and safety of Palestinian refugees from Syria and uphold their rights under international law.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Increase humanitarian assistance that meets their specific needs, including shelter, food, medical care, and education.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Fund the reconstruction and restoration of war-damaged camps and the rehabilitation of educational, health, social, and other institutions.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Recognize and address the distinct legal and humanitarian challenges faced by Palestinian refugees who have been displaced multiple times.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

On World Refugee Day, June 20, 2025, let us remember that the suffering of Palestinian refugees from Syria is not just a statistic, but a human story that requires collective attention and action to ensure a future with the dignity and security they deserve.<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n
