A leaked document issued by the Military Police Branch in Damascus – Investigation Department, dated January 8, 2017, revealed the names of detainees who died under torture in Syrian prisons, including three Palestinian refugees: Ghiath Mahmoud Omar, Youssef Ahmed Al-Khatib, and Nouris Samir Sweid.
The information confirms that the young man, Nouris Sweid, from the Yarmouk Camp, was arrested from inside Damascus University on August 28, 2013, and died only about three weeks later in Al-Khatib Branch (251) on September 21, 2013.
The documents shed light on an aspect of the file of detainees and forcibly disappeared persons, whose families have been searching for any information about their fate for years, at a time when brokerage networks linked to the regime’s apparatuses emerged, trading in the families’ suffering through false promises and huge sums of money.
It’s worth noting that these documents were revealed by the Zaman al-Wasl website and are in addition to hundreds of previous lists documenting victims of torture and enforced disappearance in Syria.
