Zaman al-Wasl newspaper revealed a detailed list of 1,750 detainees who died under torture in Syrian prisons. Their deaths were recorded at Tishreen Military Hospital in Damascus or their bodies were transferred there from various security branches since 2014.
Documents obtained by the newspaper revealed that the vast majority of the victims were detainees who died under torture, with details including full names, dates of death, the party transporting the body, and security file numbers.
Among the victims are Amjad Mahmoud Moatasem, a Palestinian refugee from Handarat camp, who died on February 8, 2015; Rami Mohammed Saeed from al-Husayniyah camp, who died on January 13, 2015; and Raafat Mahmoud al-Tawbah, from al-A’edin camp in Homs, born in 1994. He was arrested in 2013 at a checkpoint at the University Campus, run by the Political Security Service, and died under torture on February 26, 2016, after more than three years in detention.
This list is one of the most prominent documentations of war crimes in Syria, highlighting the systematic violations against detainees, including enforced disappearance and torture to death.
