A Palestinian family demands that the fate of their forcibly disappeared son be revealed

Damascus – Action Group

The family of Palestinian-Syrian Abdul Aziz Mahmoud Abbas, from Yarmouk Camp in Damascus, still does not know the fate of their son, who has been detained for more than nine years.

They are calling on the relevant authorities to reveal his whereabouts and the circumstances of his detention. Abbas’s family told Zaman al-Wasl newspaper that their son, born in 1972, was arrested on February 5, 2016, by the Political Security Branch in Damascus while trying to renew his driver’s license in the Bab Musalla area.

The family indicated that he had been residing in Jaramana after leaving Yarmouk Camp in 2015 to undergo eye surgery in coordination with the Palestinian embassy.

According to the source, his brother was later summoned for investigation at the same branch, which confirmed to the family that the authorities were aware of his whereabouts. However, his fate has remained unknown since then, despite repeated searches of detainee lists.

Abdul Aziz Abbas is one of thousands of detainees and forcibly disappeared people in Syria, whose families continue to appeal for information to reveal their fate and end their years of suffering.
