After 12 years of forced disappearance, the family of the young Palestinian-Syrian, Samir Saleh Saleh, born on June 4, 1985, identified his photo in a file of leaked photos published by the Zaman al-Wasl website as part of the “Death Cabinets” investigation. The investigation reveals photos of detainees and missing persons who appeared at headquarters affiliated with the “National Defense” militia, which was affiliated with the defunct Syrian regime.

Samir was arrested in July 2013 at a checkpoint in Yarmouk Camp in Damascus, which housed several pro-regime groups, most notably the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine – General Command, the Maher al-Mu’adhin and al-Daham groups, and others.

Since his arrest, no news of Samir has reached his family about his whereabouts or fate. The appearance of his photo in the recent leaks has revived the deep pain suffered by the families of Palestinian and Syrian detainees and missing persons in Syria.

According to the website, family sources reported that they possessed preliminary information regarding the names of individuals belonging to groups involved in arrests during the rule of the former Syrian regime. They are currently working to verify these names with the aim of documenting them later and prosecuting those responsible for the crimes committed against their son and other Palestinian refugees.
