Daraa – The Action Group
In a scene that epitomizes the suffering of the displaced, a Palestinian family was forced to live in a dilapidated room inside the Kafr Kanna School in Daraa camp in southern Syria, after failing to find a safe home.
Rabah Sobhi Awad lives with his wife and two children on the floor of a dilapidated room in the school, which had been abandoned for years and had become a shelter for stray dogs before the family was forced to take refuge there.
Awad says he took refuge in the school after exhausting all attempts to find a rental home that suited his limited means, noting that the coming winter increases his fears for the safety of his children in light of the lack of heating and adequate shelter.
The family is appealing to the relevant authorities and people of good conscience to help them find a safe home or contribute to the restoration of their damaged home inside the camp, stressing that the dilapidated school is unfit for habitation and lacks even the most basic safety requirements.
