For the occasion of World Press Freedom Day, a number of Palestinian Syrian journalists issued a statement describing the difficulties that face journalist and documentary work of the events and the reality of Palestinians of Syria. They confirmed in their statement that the lack of financial resources and new technologies and the difficulty of access to the tension areas freely, have impacted negatively on documenting and transferring information, and on covering the event to the fullest, whether individual or group. The statement also enumerates number of reasons that led a lot of journalists’ victims, where some of them died by shrapnel, torture, assassination, or shot, and others were murdered by unknown groups. As well as, the statement documented a list of media workers who have died since the beginning of the events in Syria, in addition to the names of Palestinian journalists and media workers who are detained in the Syrian prisons.
In the conclusion of the journalists’ statement, they demanded all bodies and institutions and the Union of Palestinian radio stations to provide protection and logistical support for the Palestinian cadres of press and media that is operating inside Syria camps in order to ensure delivering their voice to Arab world and international community. As well as they also called on UNRWA, International Federation of Journalists, and Reporters Without Borders, to protect and provide them with work equipment, and to release all detained and kidnapped journalists from the Syrian prisons.
