Angry Popular Reactions to the UNRWA’s Decision of Suspending Shelter Allowance of Palestinians of Syriain Lebanon, amid Threats of Escalatory Actions

In their reaction to UNRWA’s decision to stop its financial assistance allocated for shelter allowance, which is due to Palestinian refugees Syria, a group of Palestinian families, coming from Syria in Lebanon, stormed two UNRWA schools “Megiddo” and “MAzar” in Beddawi camp in northern Lebanon, and decided to reside inside.
Permanent and open sit-in tent was placed on the main road at Beddawi camp in front of Koukab school until UNRWA undo its unjust and unfair decision against our displaced Palestinian people from Syria, according to the words of one of the organizers of the protest tent.
In a related context, protest vigils were carried out at Ein el-Hilweh and Bourj Al Barajna camps, protesting against the UNRWA’s policy to reduce its services, while activists said that series of escalatory steps will be implemented in case UNRWA does not responsive to retreat the decision of suspending shelter allowance aid for displaced Palestinian from Syria camps.
The AGPS condemns the sudden announcement of UNRWA, through its General Director in Lebanon, Mr. Matthias Schmale, about the suspension of the urgent aid related to cash allowance of shelter against all Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon. The decision will be implemented starting from July 2015,Calling UNRWA to immediately undo this injustice decision against 43,000 Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon, to continue providing them with its urgent aid till their plight ends, and not to evade its direct responsibility towards the Palestinian refugees
UNRWA announced, in the words of its Director-General in Lebanon, “Matthias Shamali,”the suspension of urgent aid related to the cash allowance for shelter for all Palestinian Syrians in Lebanon, starting from July 2015.
Dozens of Palestinians of Syria in Lebanon received SMSs from UNRWA confirming the suspension of an amount of 150,000 LL, or $ 100 was paid as shelter allowances, due to the scarcity of funding, that forced UNRWA to suspend its aid, according to the message.
