Action Group – Lebanon
The Beddawi camp in northern Lebanon witnessed a mass sit-in organized by a number of Palestinian refugees from Syria, with the participation of representatives of Palestinian factions and activists from the local community, in front of the office of the Director of Services of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA).
The action came in protest against the agency’s decision to pay financial dues equivalent to only one month, instead of four months, a decision that sparked objections from the protesters, who demanded a reversal of the decision.
During the sit-in, speeches were delivered about the difficult living conditions facing refugees, particularly with regard to securing basic necessities and paying rent. In addition, an official objection was submitted to the UNRWA administration in the camp.
The participants called on the agency to expedite the disbursement of all due financial dues, in compliance with its humanitarian and social duties towards Palestinian refugees, and to work to avoid any reduction or delay in their payment
