Lebanon. Calls on UNRWA to expedite disbursements to Palestinians in Syria

Action Group – Lebanon

Today, August 4, 2025, activists from Syria in Lebanon issued an urgent appeal to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), headed by its Director-General, Dorothee Klaus. They called for the expedited disbursement of their financial dues, in light of the deteriorating living and humanitarian conditions of the refugees.

In their statement, the activists stressed that the harsh living conditions have reached an unbearable level, with dozens of families threatened with eviction from their homes due to their inability to pay rent or secure basic needs, while children face increasing risks due to poverty and deprivation.

The statement indicated that most of these families suffer from a complete lack of resources and do not have legal residency that would allow them to work or move freely, which exacerbates their crisis and places them in a state of ongoing humanitarian emergency.

The activists called on UNRWA to assume its responsibilities towards this group of refugees and take immediate measures to ensure the provision of the minimum requirements for a decent living, while taking into account their special legal and social conditions.
