In an exclusive report, Zaman Al-Wasl newspaper has revealed a list of 582 individuals who died inside detention centers run by Syria’s Air Force Intelligence between 2011 and 2014.
The harrowing list includes the names of eight Palestinian refugees, once again shedding light on the systematic violations committed against detainees in Syrian prisons.
The identified Palestinian victims are: Salah Al-Din Hassan Hammoud, Faisal Younis Hilai, Kamal Nayef Ali, Louay Ibrahim Fakhouri, Mohammad Awad Darbas, Mohammad Qassem Mahmoud, Mustafa Ahmad Ahmad, and Ahmad Za’al Marai.
According to the report, which is based on credible sources, many of the victims died as a result of systematic torture and the inhumane conditions inside detention centers. Others were reportedly killed during military raids carried out by Syrian regime forces, with their bodies subsequently withheld. Some entries in the list were marked as “remains,” suggesting they were subjected to brutal killings and mutilation.
This latest revelation adds to the mounting evidence of horrific abuses committed against civilians in Syria, including Palestinian refugees caught in the crossfire of the ongoing conflict. The information is expected to intensify international pressure for accountability and justice for the victims and their families.
The Action Group for Palestinians of Syria continues to diligently document the conditions of Palestinian refugees since the outbreak of the Syrian revolution.
To date, the group has recorded the arrest of 3,085 Palestinian refugees in Syrian prisons, hundreds of whom are confirmed to have died under torture or in circumstances that remain unclear.
