Palestinian refugees in Syria expressed their deep dissatisfaction with the ongoing Israeli bombardment of Syrian territory, affirming their full solidarity with the Syrian government and people in their rejection of the occupation’s projects and aggressive practices.
These statements came against the backdrop of the recent Israeli military escalation, which targeted several areas in Syria, including the capital, Damascus, and its countryside, in addition to the governorates of Hama and Daraa, sparking a wave of anger in the Palestinian camps, especially with the ongoing aggression on the Gaza Strip.
Following the Israeli bombardment of the city of Nawa and its surroundings in Daraa governorate, which resulted in the deaths of nine civilians, calls were made in the Palestinian camps to demonstrate against the policies of the occupation, which the demonstrators described as “savage” and “ravaging without oversight or accountability.”
Palestinian activists stressed that these attacks will not deter them from supporting Syria and its people, considering that the Israeli aggression targets the stability of the entire region. They also called on the international community to take urgent action to stop these repeated violations of Syrian sovereignty and the rights of the Palestinian people.
For their part, several Palestinian factions condemned the Israeli attacks, expressing their solidarity with the victims, while human rights organizations accused Israel of committing “war crimes” by targeting civilian areas.
This escalation comes at a time of heightened tension in the region, amid fears of an escalation of violence, while the Syrian scene appears to have become an open arena for settling regional scores.
With the continued bombardment and mounting anger, it appears that the Palestinian camps in Syria will witness further protests, amid international inability to curb the Israeli aggression, which continues its violations with little accountability.
