The Board of Directors of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees holds its first meeting in Damascus.

The Board of Directors of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees in Syria (GAPARS) held its first meeting on Wednesday, August 13, at the Authority’s headquarters in Damascus. The meeting was chaired by Dr. Ahmed Kayed Abdel Hamid, and attended by the President’s assistants, Sayed Abdel Salam Al-Masry and Taha Sobhi Farhat, along with Board members Rana Ahmed Abboud, Laila Mohammed Qaddour, Suleiman Abdel Moneim Mahna, and Amer Abu Hashish.

The Chairman of the Board opened the meeting with a speech in which he emphasized the importance of the founding phase in laying the organizational foundations and determining the strategic priorities for the Authority’s work, in line with its mission and objectives.

The agenda included discussing the vision and mission, initiating the preparation of the organizational structure and the distribution of tasks and powers, in addition to approving the Board’s meeting program and directing the formation of specialized committees to follow up on various files. The members also reviewed the living conditions of Palestinians in Syria and presented an initial description of the Authority’s status and the tasks required of it.

At the conclusion of the meeting, attendees emphasized their commitment to working as a team to enhance the Authority’s role in serving Palestinian refugees, monitoring their livelihood and social issues, and seeking appropriate solutions to the challenges they face.

It is worth noting that the Board of Directors of the General Authority for Palestinian Arab Refugees was formed by decision No. 3363 issued by the Syrian Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Qabwat, on August 10, 2025.
