The decline in the quality of education in UNRWA schools in Daraa raises concerns among Palestinian refugees

Action Group | South Syria

A number of Palestinian refugees in the Daraa Governorate expressed their concern over the deterioration of the education level in the schools of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA), considering that the education level has significantly declined compared to what the agency’s schools were like in previous years.

One of the refugees from Daraa Governorate mentioned that there are many students in advanced grades, such as the fourth grade, who cannot read or write well, but rely on memorization without the ability to actually read, especially in the English language subject. He pointed out that the students memorize the lessons mechanically, but they face difficulty in reading when asked to do so.

The refugee added that education is the only weapon Palestinians have in facing challenges, as they rely heavily on it for the Palestinian cause. He emphasized that the deterioration of education in UNRWA schools threatens to destroy an entire generation of students, which could negatively impact their future and the future of the cause they are defending.

The parents of UNRWA students demanded that the agency urgently address this sensitive issue, emphasizing the importance of education as a fundamental pillar for building a better future for their children and preserving their just cause.
