The Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Mr. Philippe Lazzarini, held a series of official meetings in Damascus aimed at strengthening joint cooperation and supporting services provided to Palestinian refugees in Syria.
In this context, Lazzarini met with the Minister of Emergency and Disaster Management, Raed Al-Saleh, where the two sides discussed the situation of Palestinian refugees, ways to enhance the humanitarian response provided to them, and mechanisms for developing future cooperation to ensure the continuity of services provided by UNRWA.
The Commissioner-General also met with the Minister of Social Affairs and Labor, Hind Qabbat, where the two parties discussed UNRWA support programs in Syria and the Ministry’s role in facilitating the Agency’s work, particularly with regard to supporting its schools and health centers. The most prominent challenges facing these facilities were addressed, as well as mechanisms to address them through joint coordination efforts.
This visit comes within the context of UNRWA’s efforts to strengthen its partnerships with Syrian government agencies, contributing to improving the conditions of Palestinian refugees and meeting their growing needs under the current circumstances.
